Lightning strikes in Hershey Park!
OK, not literal lightning (thank God), but my favorite kind of unexpected jolt: I serendipitously bumped into Liz Plosser. And by “bumped into” I mean hug tackled. I spied her across the amusement park, bobbed and weaved through a marching band, then tapped her on the shoulder, engulfing her in a happy scream. We’re OG magazine colleagues with similar resumes—stints at SELF, Cosmopolitan—and interests, we’re both former soccer players turned soccer moms. Our sons were playing in the same Memorial Day Weekend tourney in Hershey, PA, hence the surprise meet-up.
If you don’t know Liz, she’s the powerhouse one-time editor-in-chief of Women’s Health magazine, author, and wellness expert/cheerleader who makes me actually want to do pull-ups and eat more protein. Liz is smart—Princeton alumnae smart, poised, polished, all the things, which is why Joanna Coles named her editor in chief of WH over me(!) seven years ago. Tea, spilled! Liz was clearly the most fit for the fitness job and we have remained pals, building each other up…despite my initial disappointment.
I admire Liz and I have been fist-pumping along with Liz’s popular “Best Case Scenario” Substack since she pivoted from the magazine biz. Every time I read one of her well-researched, well-written pieces, I think to myself, “I should start a Substack.” And then I do nothing. But seeing Liz in person and hearing her share the pure joy she’s experiencing creating her own content on her own terms, gave me the jolt I needed to stop shoulding all over myself and to start typing. So, welcome to The Fully Charged Minute.
